We experience many different kinds of companionships. People who we befriend out of convenience simply because we see them on the daily, kind of like a classmate or a colleague. Then there are friends we make because of shared values or goals. People who we befriend because of the love and support we receive and reciprocate. These friendships make our lives more meaningful, we feel comforted being around them. The ultimate and lasting friendships are those that make us feel seen and safe.
One of my favorite names of Allah is Al-Wali. The Protecting Friend. I remember the first time I read the translation of this name as an adult and it hit me like a rock. Allah is my protecting friend. The one who made and controls the universe… is my close and protecting friend. There is so much peace and sweetness in knowing that Allah is that for me but also for those that I love and care for and I want to leave you with that sweetness. Which one of Allah’s names stands out to you the most at this stage in your life?
